Why Knock works:

Six contacts

A lot of work goes in to the simplest of designs. Knock may seem like a basic application, but every last detail has been carefully researched, designed, tested and built to minimise the demands on the human brain.
We all have a finite amount of mental energy; why waste it on complicated user interfaces?

We want our tech to feel as natural as possible, so we limit the number of contacts to six. We do this because it reflects reality. Just like in real life, your Knock contacts are your close friends, workmates and family. Maintaining more than six of these open, honest relationships would be too much to handle, so why force our minds to deal with more than our natural limits?

Simple interface

Thinking burns energy. Our brains consume about 20% of our daily energy supplies. When we look at a computer screen covered in buttons and banners, we need to process all this information. If the buttons and banners aren’t relevant, thinking about them is a waste of time... and energy. That’s why we only show one button during calls.

We focus on personal connection
